DIY Project - Bringing Nature Home

Hey everyone! So we decided to try something a little new this blog post!

We always try different projects at home, whether it be painting or interior decorating. We love nature and we tried different ways of incorporating nature into our house! We decided to take a different approach on decorating the house with plants.

SO we took branches and acorns and brought them home! Now you all are probably thinking, how did we make this work. This blog post is a step by step process of creating our window decor statement piece. Take a look below and let us know what you think. #NatureDecor

(P.S. because this is a fun Do-It-Yourself Project, it's great on the wallet too ;p)

The final piece looks like the picture below. It's a modern rustic vase. It looks fancy with the glitter, the color combo, and the glass, but it's probably one of the easiest DIY projects you'll ever do!

The items you will need are below: 1. a vase of your choice, 2. broken tree branches from your backyard, 3. acorns (YES ACORNS), 4. more tree branches, 5. silver metallic spray paint, and 6. some plant decor from any arts & crafts store- this one is from Kirklands.

The first thing to do is take the silver metallic paint and spray paint the acorns and some of the branches. The color theme of our living room is shades of brown and gray, hence why we used the color theme for the piece. We placed this piece in our window to complete the living room decor. Spray paint as many acorns and branches you feel like painting- to keep a balance between the colors. We only painted the acorns slightly for both brown and silver colors. We painted the branches to create a thick coat of silver metallic spray.

Take a look at what the spray painted branches look like. Make sure to spray paint these items outside or in an open place covered with paper or sheets; metallic spray paint has a very strong scent. Make sure to get ready for things to get a little messy while you're spraying; the spray can go far!

These are the unpainted branches. Keep the natural color but just make sure to clean the branches up! They are going to be inside the house so you want to make sure everything is clean (and insect free).

This is the added dazzle in the piece. Buy some plant decor from Kirklands or any other home accessories store to throw into this vase. It adds a pop of color and uniqueness to the piece.

Take a look at the acorns! How cute do they look?! We partially spray painted them to give them a rustic yet modern feel.

Place the acorns in the bottom of the vase and place the branches accordingly. You don't want to place the branches all in the same place because then they will end up looking tight and not cute, tbh. Place them throughout the bottom of the vase, spread apart evenly. Make sure to spread the branches on the top to create a visually appealing, spacious statement piece.

Here's a picture from the top to see how spread apart the branches are and how they are placed in different parts of the vase.

Here's a final look of the piece!

And here is the piece in it's place; our bay window in our living room. We placed it on the window sill centered between two beaded gray curtains. The overall look of the bay window gives an elegant look without overdoing it. And it looks like a beautiful work of art from outside!

Hope you like this simple yet fun DIY project.
Love,

The Malik Sisters <3
