DIY Project - Bringing Nature Home

Hey everyone! So we decided to try something a little new this blog post!

We always try different projects at home, whether it be painting or interior decorating. We love nature and we tried different ways of incorporating nature into our house! We decided to take a different approach on decorating the house with plants.

SO we took branches and acorns and brought them home! Now you all are probably thinking, how did we make this work. This blog post is a step by step process of creating our window decor statement piece. Take a look below and let us know what you think. #NatureDecor

(P.S. because this is a fun Do-It-Yourself Project, it's great on the wallet too ;p)

The final piece looks like the picture below. It's a modern rustic vase. It looks fancy with the glitter, the color combo, and the glass, but it's probably one of the easiest DIY projects you'll ever do!

The items you will need are below: 1. a vase of your choice, 2. broken tree branches from your backyard, 3. acorns (YES ACORNS), 4. more tree branches, 5. silver metallic spray paint, and 6. some plant decor from any arts & crafts store- this one is from Kirklands.

The first thing to do is take the silver metallic paint and spray paint the acorns and some of the branches. The color theme of our living room is shades of brown and gray, hence why we used the color theme for the piece. We placed this piece in our window to complete the living room decor. Spray paint as many acorns and branches you feel like painting- to keep a balance between the colors. We only painted the acorns slightly for both brown and silver colors. We painted the branches to create a thick coat of silver metallic spray.

Take a look at what the spray painted branches look like. Make sure to spray paint these items outside or in an open place covered with paper or sheets; metallic spray paint has a very strong scent. Make sure to get ready for things to get a little messy while you're spraying; the spray can go far!

These are the unpainted branches. Keep the natural color but just make sure to clean the branches up! They are going to be inside the house so you want to make sure everything is clean (and insect free).

This is the added dazzle in the piece. Buy some plant decor from Kirklands or any other home accessories store to throw into this vase. It adds a pop of color and uniqueness to the piece.

Take a look at the acorns! How cute do they look?! We partially spray painted them to give them a rustic yet modern feel.

Place the acorns in the bottom of the vase and place the branches accordingly. You don't want to place the branches all in the same place because then they will end up looking tight and not cute, tbh. Place them throughout the bottom of the vase, spread apart evenly. Make sure to spread the branches on the top to create a visually appealing, spacious statement piece.

Here's a picture from the top to see how spread apart the branches are and how they are placed in different parts of the vase.

Here's a final look of the piece!

And here is the piece in it's place; our bay window in our living room. We placed it on the window sill centered between two beaded gray curtains. The overall look of the bay window gives an elegant look without overdoing it. And it looks like a beautiful work of art from outside!

Hope you like this simple yet fun DIY project.
Love,

Latest Makeup Haul

So we recently went out shopping and bought a bunch of new makeup. Our newest makeup haul consists of a bunch of purchases from Ulta, MAC, Kylie Lip Kit, Chanel, Marc Jacobs, and Target of course! As you know we have been obsessed with liquid lipsticks lately, but we’re not limiting ourselves to only liquid lipsticks! Our obsession with lipsticks in general is crazy and maybe a little out of hand!  We recently bought a bunch of new lippies and we love them all. We also have been searching for the nicest liquid eyeliners out there. We recently got a hold of Stila liquid eyeliners at a great price from Ulta (they had a 21-day special on a special item every day!!) and we’re obsessed! So of course we had to purchase a bunch of different colors!

We bought the Stila Smudge Stick Waterproof Eyeliner in the shades: Stingray, Alpine, Ultramarine, Tetra, and Jade. These are by far the best eye pencils we have used! They go on very smoothly and the pigmentation is WOWZA! You only apply one stroke of it, and you’re good- for the whole day! When Maham does her eye makeup, she tends to use the Stila Eyeliners on her waterline and extends it as a thin eyeliner (TIP: using her nail, to get that really pointy end). The shape and easy hold allows you to be very thin when using the pencil, but you can easily go thicker! DEFINITELY A MUST-HAVE!

We also bought another liquid lipstick from the Kylie Lip Kit! We are absolutely in love with Posie K, and when we saw Kourt K, we knew we had to buy it! Our obsession with auburn/ burgundy shades is REAL. The texture on the Kylie Lipsticks is amazing. As we have mentioned in our previous ‘Loving Liquid Lipsticks’ blog, we love the Kylie Lip Kit the most! It doesn’t dry the lips and it’s so long lasting! (The swatch stayed on all day basically). The color is so rich and super pigmented. The texture is super soft to your lips. And Kourt K is the perfect color-super stylish and chic!

We recently also got two Chanel Lipsticks. The shades we got are Rouge Allure Velvet- 47 L’amoureuse and Rouge Allure Velvet- 50 La Romanesque. These shades are super classy and fancy. Definitely to wear on date night ;)
The newest MAC lippie we received is the shade, The Dark Side. The shade of course is a darker tone and the texture is amazing as well! It’s a super sexy color to rock. You can never go wrong with MAC.
The Buxom purchase is an everyday lippie that Mirha is obsessed with! The shade is called Brooklyn and it’s a brownish pinkish shade that’s very subtle but beautiful at the same time. It’s the best lippie to wear every day without overdoing your makeup.
We also recently bought a Marc Jacobs lipstick! To our surprise, the lipstick’s shade and texture was beautiful! This lipstick was also a pinkish shade but it’s so pretty! The shade is called Kiss Kiss Bang Bang. Who wouldn’t wanna wear a color named that?!
The Bare Minerals Marvelous Moxie Buttercream is a very thick, textured lip gloss. Not all lip glosses have a good visible shade, but this color is definitely visible and it’s gorgeous- it’s a light pink shade. We would recommend this for people with drier lips as it is very thick in formula. The name of the shade is Perky Peony.
Lastly, you already know about our obsession with NYX lippies as well. We recently purchased a soft matte lip cream in the shade Prague from Target (P.S. Target has amazing makeup! We don’t go too often, but whenever we do, we end up buying some makeup!) The lip cream shade is a bright pink that has a soft matte finish to it! It’s so cute and bubbly! This is definitely an everyday wear, because the texture isn’t too heavy and neither is the price, lol! Who doesn’t love good quality makeup at a reasonable price!?

The above pictures show swatches with the lip shades. Let us know if you would like to see looks with them. Follow our instagram page @the.malik.sisters to get more on makeup looks and outfit details! As always, much love from The Malik Sisters! XOXO.
